CUBA
A Shaare Emeth Mission of Jewish Cuba

January 12 -18, 2011
Limited space available
Join members of Congregation Shaare Emeth on this extraordinary mission to Cuba and bring support and aid to the Cuban Jewish community.  Meet the children of the ORT Sunday school and advance Jewish practices, ideals, and education.  Learn first-hand about today’s Jewish community and share their dreams for the future.  The spirit of the Jewish community will open your eyes, heart, and mind.  This mission is escorted by Miriam Levinson.

Miriam Levinson, an Ashkenazi Jew, was born in Cuba and relocated to the United States with her family in the late 1950’s.  She heads the Jewish Community Center Travel Department in Chicago. Miriam has led over 50 Jewish missions to Latin American countries including Cuba.  Her knowledge and understanding of Jewish Latin America adds a unique dimension to her portrayal of these communities.  After an absence of over 40 years Miriam returned to Cuba in 2001 on a religious mission to teach about Judaism to the Jews in the island.  She found a small Jewish community that longed for faith and leadership.  Her passion to help her “Cuban Jewish Family” began and she now dedicates part of her life to assisting them in finding their Jewish roots and maintaining their faith.
