 Welcome Cheri Winchell
Director of Early Childhood Education Shirlee Green Preschool

With great enthusiasm we are happy to announce that Cheri Winchell will be the new Director of Early Childhood Education for the Shirlee Green Preschool, beginning June 1. 

During its two-month process, the Search Committee spoke with several wonderful and well-qualified candidates.  By the end of the process it became evident to every member of the committee that our own "Miss Cheri" - with her warmth, her devotion to the children and families at SGPS, her dedication to Jewish values and lifelong learning, and her vision for all that SGPS can become - is the very best person to lead SGPS and Shaare Emeth into the future.

We want to thank the members of the Search Committee for all of their wisdom, work and time.   To Beth Manlin, our chair, and to Michele Bernstein, John Corn,  Darcy Glidewell, Randy Green, Cindy Heymann, Eunice Reichman, Greg Yawitz, and Rene Zar - we look forward to all of the ways you will continue to enrich Shaare Emeth and SGPS in the future.  We also want to thank all of the parents, teachers, Shaare Emeth's Board of Directors, Rabbi Bennett and Kathy Zigler for their input, patience and support.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to be in touch.

Shirlee Green Preschool provides a play-based environment, rich in Jewish values and customs. We believe play is a child’s work. Organized, open-ended and child-directed play allows children to anticipate real life situations as they interact, communicate, make choices, problem solve, and grow. Our faculty is committed to creating a safe and loving atmosphere and to nurturing a child’s creativity and positive self-image. Our goal is for each child to develop an interest and joy in learning and a feeling of security, success and responsibility.

For over 40 years, Congregation Shaare Emeth has had the privilege of being a part of Jewish and General education for the youngest of our community.

Shirlee Green Preschool is a September through May preschool dedicated to providing children with the best start in their Jewish education, as well as preparing them for learning in the varied situations they will find as they grow.

Our philosophy is based on Developmentally Appropriate Practice as defined by the National Association for Education of Young Children, as well as the constructivist practice outlined by Missouri’s Project Construct.

At our school, children learn what it means to be Jewish, the value of community, how to have pride in themselves, the fun of discovery and many more values that will become a part of the person they will grow to be. As they learn, they experience a warm, nurturing environment that only enhances their love of learning.
