Jewish music is a vital part of anyone’s overall Jewish experience because it connects words, melodies, emotion and culture with others in a completely unique way.

Every Shabbat worship service at Congregation Shaare Emeth is balanced with words and music and meaning that is carefully balanced for our diverse congregation.  For worship in particular, the music sets a tone for the entire experience.  Music and liturgy that is familiar and inviting and at the same time challenging and engaging are what make Shabbat meaningful for all.

Music at Congregation Shaare Emeth is woven through every aspect of our Congregation.

·         Music helps define our worship as inclusive, welcoming, warm and spiritual.

·         We use various instruments and voices for our services, all under the direction of the Cantor.

·         Some services use predominantly guitar, while others use piano.  Some services combine the efforts of volunteers in our Congregation who play instruments.

·         The musical ensemble Hashemesh joins our ranks often with mandolin, flute, guitar and percussion.

·         The Shaare Emeth Zamir Chorale (volunteer choir) assists our Congregation in worship on a regular basis.

·         Kol Echad Choir is our more informal choir that meets several times throughout the year for special services and sings in a more folk and kumsitz style.

·         Kol Simchah is our children’s choir that participates regularly at Friday evening services.

·         The Shaare Emeth Band Program welcomes children and adults who play band instruments to play for our holiday celebrations.

·         The High Holy Day Volunteer Choir joins with our professional octet under the direction of Brian Reeves to fill our majestic Stiffman Sanctuary with beautiful music for the evening and morning services of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

·         Our Religious School students learn prayers and songs in a comfortable setting that instills community and acceptance for all ages.

·         All musicians are welcome and encouraged to participate in Shaare Emeth’s music program.  Volunteers are always needed!

Coming this fall: Jewish Music University, an opportunity for all ages to learn about music through a variety of programs and classes.  Classes will include music reading, general music appreciation, Jewish folk music, choral singing, and much, much more.  More information coming soon.
